These are the ones that are.

A typical AL property in Vilamoura sees 40–60 turnovers a year. If each handover eats 30 minutes of someone's day plus a €10 fuel round-trip, that's €600+ and 25+ hours annually — before you count the arrivals at 1am when the flight was delayed, or the lost keys, or the lockbox someone forgot to close.

Spec, source, install
Send us photos of your current front door (both sides), the marina gate if you have one, and your Wi-Fi coverage at the door. We come back with a spec sheet — which lock, which mount, with or without hub, PMS integration path. Purchase can be direct (we send an Amazon/Nuki basket link) or we source through a Portuguese reseller if you want an invoice with IVA for accounting.
Installation is done by a certified electrician-slash-locksmith we've used for years. €120–€200 depending on how thick the door is and whether the cylinder needs replacing. He's on our approved contractor list and invoices you direct.
Salt air, heat, and thick Portuguese doors
Vilamoura throws two problems at electronic locks: brutal August heat (front doors in direct sun hit 55°C+ surface temperature) and salt-laden air within 2 km of the marina. Cheap locks fail in 12–18 months. Every model on our list is rated for outdoor use and has survived at least one Algarve summer on a property we manage.
Portuguese doors are also often heavier and thicker than the specs most locks are designed around — 55–70mm door thickness with 30mm+ Euro cylinders. Confirm the door spec before ordering; the wrong cylinder length is the #1 reason a smart-lock install goes sideways.

How much does a smart-lock install cost?+
€180–€350 for the lock itself (Nuki Pro, Igloohome Deadbolt 02, TTLock 3.0), plus €120–€200 for professional installation. Add €5–€12/month if you use a hub or PMS integration (Hostaway, Smoobu, Guesty).
What happens if the batteries die mid-stay?+
Every recommended lock warns you 6–8 weeks ahead via app, and every lock retains a mechanical key override. All also expose emergency 9V-battery contacts on the outside plate — you can jump-start the lock from a supermarket battery in 30 seconds while the guest is at the door.
Are smart locks legal for AL under Portuguese fire code?+
Yes, as long as the interior side always opens with a single motion without a code (Segurança contra Incêndios em Edifícios / SCIE requirement). Every lock we recommend meets this. Locks that require entering a PIN to leave — some cheap electronic locks do — are not compliant and are not on our list.
Does it integrate with my channel manager?+
Yes, if you're on Hostaway, Guesty, Smoobu, Lodgify or similar. The lock's cloud generates a unique per-guest code that expires at check-out, sent automatically the day before arrival. Zero admin per booking after initial setup.
