Resources/Pool & garden

Trusted pool &
garden care.

A pool that turns green mid-booking is the fastest way to a bad review — and the outdoor space is why most guests picked your villa in the first place. These are the teams that keep both consistently guest-ready.

Vetted, independent, no kickbacks. You contract and pay every provider directly. If a team underperforms for one of our owners, they come off this list.

Why it matters

The outdoor space sells the booking

Guests booking a Vilamoura villa are booking the terrace and the pool. The interior has to be right, but the cover photo is almost always shot from the pool deck. A neglected garden or a cloudy pool undoes the entire listing before a guest walks through the door.

Pool chemistry is also a safety issue. Under-treated water grows bacteria fast in Algarve heat; over-treated water damages skin and eyes and — worse — voids most insurance policies if a guest reports it. Weekly professional service is not an upsell here, it's a floor.

How the booking flow works

From first walk-through

The pool team walks the property on day one — measures the pool, notes the equipment (single-speed pump, salt cell, heat pump), and quotes the standing weekly fee. The garden team does the same, usually the following week.

Both teams share the property calendar so their visits fall before guest arrivals, not on turnover days when the cleaner is already there. Reports arrive on WhatsApp; invoices are monthly, direct from the provider.

Local context

Vilamoura pool and garden realities

Salt-chlorinated pools are now the local standard — kinder on skin, easier chemistry, and salt cells last 5–7 years in Vilamoura water. Traditional chlorine is only worth keeping if the existing equipment is under three years old.

Watering restrictions are tightening — Algarve has been in drought conditions on and off since 2022. Every villa we manage now runs on drip irrigation with a smart timer, and lawn areas have been reduced or replaced with gravel and Mediterranean planting. Guests don't notice the change; the water bill does.

Common questions

How often does a pool in Vilamoura need servicing?+

Weekly in summer (April–October), fortnightly in winter. Skipping weeks in high season is how green pools happen — and one green pool during a booking will earn you a 1-star review that outlives the guest.

What does pool maintenance typically cost?+

Weekly service in Vilamoura runs €60–€120 per week for a standard 8x4m private pool, chemicals included. Equipment repairs (pump, filter, salt cell) are billed separately.

Do these providers cover garden and pool together?+

AquaVilamoura is pool-only. Jardins do Sul is garden-only. Most owners use both. We coordinate their schedules so they don't overlap on turnover days.

Do I need a pool heater?+

Not for July–September — the pool sits at 26–28°C on its own. Heat pumps extend the usable season to March–November and lift shoulder-season occupancy noticeably; a €4–6k install pays back in 2–3 seasons for most villas we manage.

What about pool safety for families with kids?+

Portuguese AL rules require a safety notice and (for enclosed pools) an alarm or fence. Guests with under-5s often ask for a pool fence — we can source a modular removable one for €800–€1,200, guests are willing to pay a deposit for it.

What's included in garden care in high vs. low season?+

Weekly mowing, hedge trimming and irrigation checks in high season. Fortnightly in winter, plus autumn deep-prune and spring feed. The garden looks its worst in February — schedule your own inspection visits accordingly.
