Interior sets both the nightly rate and the review score
Two identical 3-bed villas in Vilamoura, same street, same pool size, can have €50/night difference in what they book at — and often it's the interior doing the work. Guests filter Airbnb by photos first, price second. A well-designed villa books at a premium and gets fewer maintenance callouts because guests treat nice things more nicely.
Getting it wrong costs more. Cheap sofas need replacing at 18 months, veneer kitchens delaminate in the humidity, and white bedlinen turns grey after 20 wash cycles at the wrong temperature. A good designer specifies materials that make it through five to seven years, not one.

Vilamoura design norms
The Vilamoura AL market splits into three tiers. Entry (€150–€250 /night) rents almost regardless of interior. Mid (€350–€600) is where interior is decisive — clean, modern, plenty of natural light, contract-grade finishes. Top (€800+) is design-led: architect-signed refits, statement kitchens, curated art. Match the design tier to the nightly rate you're targeting; over- or under-specifying both cost money.
Local suppliers worth knowing about: several excellent Portuguese furniture manufacturers deliver directly to Loulé within 6–8 weeks, at 40–60% below the Italian imports most Vilamoura design villas default to. The designers on our list use them.

How much does a full villa interior design cost?+
Design fee alone: €80–€180/m² for a full-service design (concept, mood boards, spec, procurement, install). Furnishing budget separately: €18k–€35k for a functional 2-bed AL apartment, €50k–€120k for a 4-bed villa with pool, €200k+ for a high-end turnkey design villa.
Can they buy everything and I just get a finished villa?+
Yes — this is what most owners want. Turnkey furnishing packages include design, procurement, delivery, install and styling for photography. Timeline is typically 10–14 weeks from brief to check-in ready, longer if the villa also needs light building work.
Do designers take commission on furniture?+
Some do, some don't — they're upfront either way. Most designers on our list pass through trade discounts (10–35% off retail) so the net cost with a designer is often lower than what you'd pay walking into the same showroom yourself.
What's different about designing for AL vs. residential?+
Everything: commercial-grade mattresses (not memory foam that dents), contract-grade upholstery that scrubs clean, hard flooring in high-traffic zones, blackout in every bedroom, oversized dining tables, no white sofas, generous storage for cases. Also: no ornaments a child can break.
